The following message is from West Orange Club President and TD John Hagerty:
Due to my upcoming bladder surgery (Jan. 11), I am going to take a temporary leave of absence at least through to the end of March. I believe that my prognosis will be good as it is a one day surgery to remove a tumor. In the meantime, I am designating Lev (who is one of our two vice presidents) to be "in charge" as the President Pro Tem and that I wish all the officers to be "on deck" to assist him. I will be "in the background" to advise him should Lev need to hear my opinions on plans. As of this moment, the only "club activity" is the GSCL. Lev happens to be the president of that group and he, Andy Chan and I have been working on an issue of dealing with a suspected "cheater" who is active in the league.
As far as our next Annual Meeting and Election, I propose that we wait to conduct that process until we get the "green light" from the town to begin to use the Katz Community Center again.
Concerning the USATE tournament this year, I will leave it up to Lev and Ken Ganning to discuss that possibility of our club participating.
This has been, in my view, a "throwaway year" since we last met on March 3. On a personal note, my children`s Chess classes in various venues have been indefinitely cancelled.
